Why do I do it?

Our actions define our future. Not our words or our excuses.
A few days ago someone said why do we do this to ourselves? Meaning why do we push so hard in the gym? What is all this work for? I answered with "delayed gratification" so many people strive for instant gratification through various outlets, but almost always those feelings of self worth are short lived and just leave us craving more, I myself am guilty of this. I think we all are in one way or another. But why do we go and push ourselves to our limit every day, without being promised a quick fix or any over night results? (Which don't exist btw) But here lies the difference of delayed gratification over the instantaneous. When you work towards a goal, whether a show, a PR, or specific physic, you commit to something long term. You decide to suffer through the workout and cardio and 24/7 diet. You prioritize your health and are constantly practicing discipline. All these factors build your character fortress brick by brick, day after day, workout after workout, morning by night. You build skills that go far beyond strength and aesthetics. And once you reach that goal you set you have more than just a sense of "happiness" you have pride in your accomplishments. And you will crave more of that pride, but that craving fuels motivation. You set bigger goals, greater goals, seemingly unobtainable dreams. The more goals you accomplish the deeper your motivation will grow, and the higher your goals will be set. There is no ceiling, there is no limit, there's no more excuses, only action, discipline, and character building: one brick at a time.
